In Egypt, two regulators are primarily responsible for the authorization and supervision of entities providing financial services: the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA). The allocation of responsibilities between the CBE and the FRA is as follows:
- The CBE regulates banks and companies offering banking services such as payment solutions, e-money and cryptocurrency.
- The FRA regulates all entities offering non-banking financial services (NBFSs). These firms include, for example, investment firms, asset managers, hedge funds, brokers, financial advisers, insurance intermediaries, consumer finance firms, and microfinance firms.
