Domestic violence refers to intentional actions of a person or the threat of doing such actions that are of a physical, psychological or economic nature and a dismissive attitude committed by a family member/a person equated to a family member toward another family member/a person equated to a family member.

The term victim refers to a family member/a person equated to a family member on whom an act of domestic violence is committed; it also refers to a minor who witnessed an act of domestic violence.

Psychological violence
This is a threat of physical, sexual or economic violence, as well as deliberate humiliation of honor and dignity, coercion to commit offenses or acts that are dangerous to life or that lead to a violation of mental or physical health, as well as the restriction of the right of adult persons (e.g., family members) to communicate.

Economic violence
This is a deliberate failure of one family member/person equated to a family member to perform the support duties in respect of another family member/person equated to a family member, as well as a deliberate deprivation or restriction of the right to receive or dispose of property or income intended by law to a person, and/or the use of funds and property by a trustee to the detriment of the principal.
