Hydrogen Developments
Development stage

October 2022: On 25 October 2022, the Singapore government launched Singapore's National Hydrogen Strategy to develop hydrogen as a major decarbonisation pathway to support Singapore's commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Singapore's National Hydrogen Strategy comprises five key thrusts:

  1. Experimenting with the use of advanced hydrogen technologies at the cusp of commercial readiness through pathfinder projects
  2. Investing in research and development to unlock technological bottlenecks
  3. Pursuing international collaborations to enable supply chains for low-carbon hydrogen
  4. Undertake long-term land and infrastructure planning
  5. Supporting workforce training and development of our broader hydrogen economy

It was noted that in the Strategy that if technology continues to advance and international remains strong, hydrogen could meet up to 50% of Singapore's projected electricity demand by 2050.
