October 2023: On 5 October 2023, the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, announced the release of the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap ("Hydrogen Roadmap"). The Hydrogen Roadmap is intended to support the National Energy Policy 2022-2024, which promotes the development of a hydrogen economy in Malaysia. This follows the launch of Malaysia’s Parts 1 and 2 of the National Energy Transition Roadmap in July and August 2023 respectively, in which hydrogen was identified as one of the energy transition levers driving the efforts to be a net-zero nation by 2050. The vision under the Hydrogen Roadmap is for Malaysia to be a leading Hydrogen Economy country by 2050 while achieving the world's decarbonisation targets. There are three goals, five strategic thrusts, nine strategies and 29 action plans over three phrases: short term (2022-2030), mid term (2031 – 2040) and long term (2041-2050) in the Hydrogen Roadmap.
