Hydrogen Developments
Preliminary stage

December 2024: The Republic of Kazakhstan has approved the Hydrogen Energy Development Concept until 2030, aiming to transform its energy structure by reducing carbon emissions and implementing new technologies. This concept focuses on hydrogen energy, which offers environmental and economic benefits. Key objectives include producing 25,000 tons of hydrogen by 2030, with at least 50% being green hydrogen, and developing infrastructure such as hydrogen storage facilities and refueling stations. The plan also aims to reduce CO2 emissions, increase hydrogen exports, attract investments, and implement hydrogen transport solutions.

April 2024: The Energy Minister of Kazakhstan presented the concept of developing hydrogen energy until 2040. The document was presented for public comment until 13 May 2024.

November 2022: Kazakhstan and the European Union have entered into a memorandum of mutual understanding and strategic partnership in sustainable raw materials, renewable hydrogen and battery value chains..  The document was signed by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov and the President of the EU, Ursula von der Leyen, at the COP27 Summit in Egypt.

October 2022: As part of the official visit of Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, to Kazakhstan, the sides signed an investment agreement on the project aimed at building a renewable energy source and green hydrogen production and distribution center in Mangistau region, the official telegram Channel of the Kazakh President’s press service reports.
