There are a number of energy efficiency policies and programs across the country (including the ENERGY STAR® program referenced in the section on “Green certification”). The DOE's Energy Efficiency Policies and Programs outline a number of these programs.
There are a growing number of policies and incentives provided by both federal and state governments. These policies and incentives are monitored by several institutions, including North Carolina State University (as of writing this, it has 153 listed on the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency.)
The Internal Revenue Service provides certain deductions for energy-efficient commercial buildings or energy-efficient commercial building retrofit properties. This deduction was expanded under the IRA. The IRS has issued guidance on these deductions.
