Under the DPA 2018 and the Data Protection (Charges and Information) Regulations 2018 (2018 Regulations), controllers that process personal data are required to pay a data protection fee to the ICO, unless an exemption applies. This fee is payable annually, and the level of the fee depends on the size of the organization by reference to number of staff and annual turnover.
