The 2013 Constitution of Vietnam recognizes everyone's right to the inviolability of the physical body and to the legal protection of health, honor and dignity. Nobody can torture, use violence, coerce, or resort to physical punishment or use any other measure to violate the physical body, health, honor and dignity of another person.
Vietnam signed and ratified the 1979 Convention on 18 December 1982.
The Maputo Protocol does not apply to Vietnam.

Law No. 73/2006/QH11 on gender equality prohibits gender-based violence. It also demonstrates efforts to abolish narratives threatening the concept of gender equality such as declaring that men and women are equal in all aspects of social and family life.
Law No. 21-LCT/HÐNN8 on the protection of people's health provides that women have the right to a voluntary abortion.
Law No. 52/2014/QH13 on family and marriage ("Family and Marriage Law") prohibits domestic violence and enforces equality and mutual respect between husbands and wives in marriage.
The Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence is specifically dedicated to preventing and combatting domestic violence. It prohibits several forms of domestic violence such as corporal beating and forced sexual intercourse. It also imposes the state authorities' duty to protect and support victims of domestic violence, raise awareness of domestic violence and promote gender equality.
In the Penal Code, for certain crimes, the sentences will be heightened if victims are specific family members or pregnant women.
